|

Hello.
I'm using a DNote WVCO3 netbook that comes with Intel GMA 3650.
After compiling the kernel with GMA3600 support and the console looks like the live cd(with pinguins on loading), oposed to smaller screen and no pinguins during loading, but when i run X or X -configure i get the next error:
no screens found.
I'm starting fluxbox with .xinitrc.
.xinitrc:
startfluxbox
Xorg.0.log:

.config:

lspci:

So, the question is how to get Xorg working =).
Thanks in advance. |

Despite being labeled as such, GMA 3650 is *not* an intel chip, it's a PowerVR one. As such, the intel X driver cannot drive it. There's no open-source X driver for it. Your best choice is the xf86-video-modesetting driver. You don't get any acceleration with it, but you do get modesetting.
The alternative is trying your luck with the closed-source cdv driver. But trust me, the chances you'll get that one to run are very slim. |

Thanks for the fast response, installed it and somehow it does work, in fluxbox everything looks pixelized, like scrambled images on old tv's does.
Gonna try my luck with the cdv. |

I use the xf86-video-fbdev driver for my GMA3600 when I want to use X on my netbook.
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf
Code: | Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel GMA3600"
Driver "fbdev"
EndSection |
It works but it's not great.
Anyway I use this netbook as a nfs/sabnzbd/dlna/web-server in my homenetwork so I rarely run X on it _________________ i7-4790K | 16GB DDR3 | GTX 970 | 500GB SSD

Thanks.
Also works, but still with everything "scrambled". |

Can you provide a screenshot of that? Also post the X log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log), use a pastebin for that please. |

That's just weird, the cursor and panel are ok, but the rest is scrambled...
Have you tried something other than fluxbox? Probably won't make a difference, but it's something to try. Beyond that... return the thing and buy something that does not have GMA 3600 graphics.
Edit: Hmm, I forgot one very simple thing to try - a different kernel. In particular, try the 3.0 and 3.4 LTS kernels. |

Tried icewm and blackbox and the problem is the same, gonna try to build 3.0/3.4 kernels, currently running 3.7.10.
Edit: Strange, its hardly noticeable but when i run make menuconfig i can see the same scrambles.
Edit2: Linux-3.8.6-hardened has the same issue, also the keyboard doesn't work after X load, but it's not important.
Edit3: Linux-3.8.6-hardened only with Intel Gma5/600 or with both Intel GMA5/600 and Intel Gma600 support doesn't start Xorg, so the driver that is giving the problem is really Intel GMA3600/3650 support, probably that's why it is "Experimental".
And yeah, this netbook is really a bad choice, the processor is documented to be x64 but is locked by manufacture for x86. Also, the INSYS support is really bad. |

You can try cdv-gfx, but it only supports older kernels. _________________ Core i7-3930k | DX79SI | 48GB RAM | GTX 970 4GB | 50" Seiki 4K
