Hey, I am rather amazed with this, after recently installing Funtoo, I set up X and ran conky. It showed that 6 GB's of my RAM were being used....by nothing. What is causing this, and how do I fix it?

Moved from Desktop Environments to Unsupported Software. Not about Gentoo so it fits better here.
Since you're using top, I'd do the following:- hit 'x' to highlight the sort column.
- Hit '<' until the VIRT column is highlighted.
- Hit 'i' (perhaps twice) to ensure that you're showing idle processes.
My guess is that, once you're looking at the right thing, you'll find out what's using the memory. Probably there's nothing to fix.

P.S.: You're code listing is a mess. Appreciate it if you'd delete all those trailing spaces. _________________ I can confirm that I have received between 0 and 499 National Security Letters. |

Top only details what the tasks are requiring.
There are many things on a system which consume ram but are not tasks.
Starting with the kernel, drivers, ramdisks...
I'd bet on a ramdisk or something of the kind (tmpfs/shm...) _________________
