|
|
Abstract: A CD containing the Sources and configs used to install the system, as well as a live environment appropriate for installation.
I am sure there is an easy way to do this. as simple as a Tar-ing of the portage source tree, distfiles, /etc and other components of the os and having a bootable/live cd base to guide the user in installation.
Purpose of such a disc would be to have system specific installation discs based on Gentoo systems. Think about laptops with unique configurations (tablet PC's, Media Creation laptops, Arm based net-books, etc ).
Once setup to user satisfaction a script could be run which would prepare a live restoration image for the system. that image could be used in a unetbootn thumb drive or a live cd/dvd/etc. with the size of usb drives one could easily backup all the sources you have and potentially even /home dir's.
the user could select any detectable constant in the hardware as a verification fingerprint for the system (ie. UUID's , mac addresses, Cpu manufacturer) or none at all for a general pourpose/simple installer.
any ideas or questions welecomed. _________________
