|
|
So, I've managed to compile the necessary modules, install ALSA, and unmute the sound device I want to use. It shows up in /proc/asound/cards, and the master and PCM are both unmuted in alsamixer. ALSA is set to start during boot.
I'm at a loss as to what I should try next, so I'll just post some relevant info in hopes that someone can help me
/proc/asound/cards:
Code: |
jason@jason-gentoo ~ $ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia <---- The one I want to use
HDA NVidia at 0xdfdf4000 irq 22
1 [Generic ]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
HD-Audio Generic at 0xdffbc000 irq 44

If there's any other output anyone wants to see, I'm happy to oblige

You haven't even stated what the problem is. |

..oh. The problem is that sound does not come out of my speakers when I try playing videos with mplayer, or try using speaker-test. |

Useful debugging info:
Code: | wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
bash alsa-info.sh --upload |
Then show us the URL that the script shows at the end. _________________ Improve your font rendering and ALSA sound |

So does that mean the issue is that the card is not using the right sound device by default? |

Could be. Only you know that. Google for the various methods to set the default device, and try them |

I've tried running speakertest on all 3 sound devices, and still nothing. Really the only one that should matter is hw:0:0, because that is the analog output of the card that I want to use, but I tried all of them regardless.
This is what I tried:
Code: |
speaker-test -D hw:0,0 -c 2
speaker-test -D hw:0,1 -c 2
speaker-test -D hw:0,2 -c 2
|
None of them throw errors, I'm just not hearing anything..
Still no sound |

Can u check aplay -L for devices list
and try
aplay -D device_name some_wave_file.wav
where device_name u take from aplay -L ( its like: hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 )
for me speaker test just say only device is busy, nothing more
but aplay plays
( I had similar problem yesterday after kernel upgrade to 3.9.1, but I set default device using kde systemsettings ) _________________ Sent from Windows |
