Hello

Im booting linux from a server. I load the vmlinuz and initrd from http, after thats it mounts root over nfs... But nfs is verry slow and i need a special configuration for every client... So it is possible to load the rootfs directly to ram? I mean creating a sqashfsimage or a modificated initrd whit desktop inside? Other posibility is to do this whit aufs, but i dont know if it works whit http? I want do this because i have enough ram and an other clients that i dont want to configure everytime, i think it is much more secure sharing the rootfs readonly over http..
If u have some ideas how to do that tell me please...

o5i,

Put everything in the initrd.
If the initrd does everything you need, there is no reason to have another root filesystem.

This will make startups slow, as your entire root filesystem will be downloaded by the boot loader.
You can still mount persistent storage over NFS.

Tinhat Linux does this - its a Gentoo derivative that runs entirely in RAM. Have a look at it.
