I have a media server with Gentoo + XBMC that I have configured to suspend to RAM. This configuration works without problems with the remote I have and lets me suspend and wake up the media server without problems.
The main problem I have right now is that the media center can't be reached via ssh if its already suspended, so I was wondering if there's any way to use WoL or something like that to be able to wake the PC from the suspended state. I've checked my BIOS settings on the media center and I didn't find anything about Wake on Lan, so I supose it doesn't suport a wake from power off, but does that mean it also doesn't support a wake from suspend? |

It's not an uncommon thing - yes some machines can be waken from LAN from suspend. But it is very hardware dependent and a lot don't work properly. I've noticed many cheap motherboards that says WOL is supported in BIOS but doesn't actually work. What hardware (NIC and motherboard) would be helpful to find out if it should work or not.
For today's machines, waking from suspend and waking from off isn't much different from one another - if it doesn't support one, likely the other is also unsupported, but if it suspends/resumes just fine, there's no reason why the LAN card can't just virtually push the button on your computer to power it up... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
