I am having some trouble installing the drivers for my radon hd 2600 pro. Originally, I used the open source drivers, but I downgraded xserver and decided to go with fglrx for performance reasons. I have spent hours on google trying to get these drivers working. Right now, according to glxinfo I have direct rendering, but the performance is nowhere near what it was on windows (or linux mint with binary drivers). I have direct rendering disabled in the kernel, and fglrx.ko to run at boot, but in the boot process, I get "module fglrx failed to load". xserver is working as I am currently typing this in my KDE environment, so I don't really know whats going on. Any help would be amazing.

ATI radeon 2600 pro

dmesg may tell you why fglrx.ko failed to load.
For your card, you need ati-drivers-13.1_pre897 (the legacy branch).
Once fglrx kernel module loads successfully (verify with lsmod), ensure that eselect opengl is set to ati and fglrx is set as driver in xorg.conf. |
