I have a problem with logical partitions and an encrypted system.
The only reason I haven't switched to the newer bios-thing is that my first primary partition is a small one that came with my computer and is most likely used by my second primary partition, windoze. My third primary partition is /home and I hade my fourth partition into a logical partition system, with my fifth logical partition being gentoo and the sixth any OS that I happen to be experimenting with, while my final seventh partition is swap.
My partition table looks like this
/dev/sda1 (primary) system partition that came with the windoze OS
/dev/sda2 (primary) the actual windoze OS
/dev/sda3 (primary) my /home partition
/dev/sda4 (logical) ->
/dev/sda5 (logical) gentoo
/dev/sda6 (logical) cleared ext4 space
/dev/sda7 (logical) swap space that I could temporarily remove if I wanted to because I don't really need it.
For this system to work normally, I think it would need a primary partition designated /boot in which the kernel, intrd and system.map files are stored.
I already tarballed my experimental partition 6 and backed up the system on an usb hard-drive, but did nothing about my gentoo system, partition 6.
I want to set up a dm-crypt/LUKS system for my 5th and 6th partitions.
Thank you for any help, I would do more research myself but currently I am a university student going through the final exam session, so I don't really have any time to work out the details myself. If I wasn't in exams, I wouldn't have posted this on the forum; I would have learned everything necessary from manual pages and did it myself.
Again, thanks for even reading this. I have learned so much from the gentoo community. |
