dependend on that I'd to forbid s2disk b/c my system doesn't wake up fine w/o an initramfs.
The output of dmesg is not reliable if too many log messages are produced.
Any other ideas ?

toralf,

Put a meaningless (to the kernel) option on the kernel command line in grub.conf when you use an initrd.
You can then parse it from /proc/cmdline

e.g. root=UUID=ff5730d5-c28d-4276-b300-5b0b0fc60300 vga=0x317 video=vesafb:mtrr:3,ywrap used_initrd
The used_initrd is up to you.
