I made a major upgrade ,and after there is no sound.
The upgrade included the kernel and pulseaudio also got installed.

Or I have a little sound I can hear a click in my speakers when I mute the sound i my gnome desktop.

But nothing else. I did run alsa-info and the result is here.
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=25e7103e3983ace531a292b9c8eb1e63e88c5651

Here is what pulseaudio write to /var/log/messages.
Code:

I would say as it keep complain against avaiability of high resolution timer that is something to check.

To be honest i don't know what timer it speak of, so check those ones :
Code:
CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS
CONFIG_HPET_TIMER
CONFIG_SND_HRTIMER
CONFIG_SND_SEQ_HRTIMER_DEFAULT

If you didn't upgrade your kernel, forget what i have said.

Activated these
Code:

CONFIG_SND_HRTIMER
CONFIG_SND_SEQ_HRTIMER_DEFAULT

it removed the timer error message, but still no sound.

And now I get a lot errors mentioning fd0.
Code:

end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0

I solve it by following the alsa guide.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml

Running alsaconf again solved the problem.

I also blacklisted my floppy (fd0) in modprobe.d
