Same error here. Sorry, I've found no solution as yet.

Ok, problem was that my /var/tmp/portage was on a tmpfs ramdisk. The setfattr fails on it and I couldn't make it work. CONFIG_TMPFS_XATTR is on in my kernel, so I'm not sure why. Also thought maybe it had to be mounted with the user_xattr option, but that doesn't appear to be valid for tmpfs.

Anyway, workaround was just to compile v8 with a different tmpdir (create the dir first, and make sure it's on a filesystem with extended attributes enabled in your kernel (other than tmpfs)):

Code:
PORTAGE_TMPDIR=/var/lib/tmpportage emerge -av1 v8

I'd appreciate it if anyone has a solution to a fully-working PORTAGE_TMPDIR on a tmpfs for an xattr case like this.

I ran it with the temp override and still got the error (on an ext4 filesystem).
According to http://devmanual.gentoo.org/eclass-reference/pax-utils.eclass/index.html pax-mark is controlled via PAX_MARKINGS env var. So conceptually you could add

Code:
PAX_MARKINGS=PT emerge -1av v8

and get the job done - I think I'll wait until whatever it is doing wrong gets fixed.

My overridden TMPDIR was also on ext4, and all PAX warning went away when I used it (i.e. the failure for v8, and warnings for chromium and nsplugins). Double-check CONFIG_EXT4_FS_XATTR is enabled in your kernel. If that still doesn't work, you might try remounting the device containing your temporary tmpdir with user_xattr turned on. E.g.:
Code:
mount -o remount,user_xattr /

That wasn't necessary on my system, but I can imagine how it might be different depending on enabled portage FEATURES.

I went up to the next release by adding the ~amd64 keyword as

Code:
echo "dev-lang/v8 ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

and it went through OK. BUT...

Chromium barfed with a similar error! I have "keyworded" it and it is now compiling, but will take a while.

HTH!
Bill

ETA: Actually the Chromium compile then died, needing many packages to be added to the keyword file... back to another square.
