Hi,

In the early days, amd64 editions had issues with flash etc not being supported very well. Are all those issues in the past, so I can proceed with amd64 install? I ask because I see that, for example Ubuntu still recommends 32 bit regardless of your arch.

Thanks.

I recently switched from amd64 to ~amd64.
Everything ran well with the exception of udev-198.
That was solved in a revision by the devs within days.
Yes 64 bit flash runs ok even with vdpau enabled.
Gerard.

Flash is mostly a solved problem these days. There are still issues with other badly written proprietary software on 64-bit distros, Steam being one example.

I installed ~AMD64 about 4 years ago, switched to straight AMD64 about 3 years ago. For me, it just works. It's a straight KDE machine, with LibreOffice, Chromium, Gimp, and other typical stuff. I had problems with Amarok and Clementine talking to my old iPod, but I don't think that's specific to AMD64.

Adobe drop flash for Linux see for more:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTA2MDc
last version is already 2 years old except for security patches

you get forced to use chromium with pepper plugin or google-chrome binary
for new flash version

99% of software run fine under amd64
