Hi everyone,

I've got an Intel Atom netbook, so I can only get decent performance if I run a window manager without a DE.
This has been fine, except when it comes to brightness control.

From my efforts googling there should be either a /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness file, or /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness for me to mess with. But /sys/class/backlight is an empty folder, and /proc/acpi/video doesn't exist.

Then I was told to run xbacklight -set 100 which returns
Code:
RANDR Query Version returned error -1

Finally I was told to mess around with xrandr, but that simply returns Can't open display, even when run as root.

Any ideas on how to get this working? Thanks a ton.

Your kernel doesn't have the correct backlight driver enabled, therefore you can't change the backlight from userspace.

Got it. Any way of knowing what driver I need or if there even is an appropriate driver for my hardware?
