|
|
Hello all, I've a new laptop and I wanted to copy my existing gentoo system to it.
That part went fine, afterwards, I've installed grub and it went successfully, here's how I did, first through live cd, I'd chroot into my gentoo system and then:
Code: | root (hd0, 6) # /boot is on /dev/sda7
setup (hd0)
quit |
but then when I reboot, I get nothing and I keep getting a prompt to choose between boot mediums, I've booted through a ubuntu live cd and checked the HDD with gparted; I get this warning
Quote: | Warning: /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table? |
I'd like to point that I have a hidden partition with EFI folder that I didn't modify.
Any help, is appreciated

Astronaut,
Welcome to Gentoo.
Is your BIOS in EFI mode or in Legacy/BIOS mode ?
Which version of grub did you install?
If you are BIOS mode, you need to write a valid protective MSDOS partition table to your GPT drive or your BIOS will claim that the drive is not bootable. It won't even load grub.
In EFI mode, you can rebuild your kernel as a valid EFI program, so the the EFI BIOS can load and run it. _________________ Regards,
