|
|
Kppp doesn't want to start up properly, it seems that pppd is dying for some reason. If anybody can shed any light on this, I'd really appreciate it. I've put some info below. Also, sorry in advance about not putting stuff in code tags, the bbcode buttons don't work in konq.
My modem is at /dev/tts/4, devfsd is set up to link that to /dev/modem:
# setserial -v /dev/modem
/dev/modem, UART: 16550A, Port: 0xec00, IRQ: 5
(note: this matches what's in lspci)
I have ppp compiled as a module:
# lsmod
ppp_generic 18476 0 (autoclean)
slhc 4736 0 (autoclean) [ppp_generic]
When I try to connect kppp, it throws this error:
The pppd daemon died unexpectedly!
Exit status: 1
Here is kppp's log output:
ATZ
OK
CONNECT 52000/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS
ATM1L1
OK
ATDT3034427097
Here is what shows up in /var/log/everything/current:
Jul 24 19:54:19 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module ppp0
Jul 24 19:54:19 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module ppp0
Jul 24 19:54:19 [pppd] pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Jul 24 19:54:19 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module tty-ldisc-3
Jul 24 19:54:19 [pppd] Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument
Jul 24 19:54:19 [pppd] Exit. |

I think I found a reason for this. I have the same exact problem right now, and I found that tty-ldisk-3 is aliased to the module ppp_async. Unfortunately, a review of the contents of /lib/modules revealed that there was no such file as ppp_async. Why? I haven't a clue... i've recompiled kernel and pppd millions of times and still there is no ppp_async file. Have you found any solutions?
Edit * Google is your friend...
Just found out what was wrong. There is a kernel option under Network Device Support -> PPP Support for Async serial ports that must be activated for pppd to work. Wonder why it's not on by default?
