The latest update to xorg-server and several others have resulted in my system being unbootable because a new version of xorg-server invalidates xf86-input-evdev, but it is not forced to be rebuilt.

Is there a way to force the rebuild or something else I can do to automate this process?

You can, with the command
Code:
emerge @x11-module-rebuild

There are a few more pre-defined package sets for similar purposes, such as '@preserved-rebuild' or '@module-rebuild'.
