Is there a way to exclude this mirror from emerge --sync?

For fixing the DNS rotation, you will need to wait until infra reacts to bug 511754.

In the meantime, you can set SYNC in make.conf to a known good server, or to some DNS rotation that does not include heanet.ie
make.conf:
SYNC="rsync://rsync.se.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage/"

I use "esearch" and esync which gives me /var/log/emerge-sync.log.
This gives me the mirror name.
I immediately ctrl C HEA.net.
Gerard.

Thanks for the link. I'll vote for that bug.

I could of course do that; the Swedish mirror is also the closest to home for me. But the idea of mirror rotation is basically sound, and should provide a good load balancing. Picking one particular mirror defeats that purpose. But I'd like to be able to set up a list of blacklisted mirrors for portage to read before syncing.

So do I. But I'd prefer a means to totally avoid it.

rsync.se.gentoo.org is not a single mirror, it is also a DNS rotation. (Although the list is shorter than rsync.gentoo.org)
Code:
$ nslookup rsync.se.gentoo.org
Name:      rsync.se.gentoo.org
Address 1: 140.211.166.189 bobolink.gentoo.osuosl.org
Address 2: 81.91.253.252
Address 3: 91.186.30.235 boobie.gentoo.org
Address 4: 176.28.50.119 quetzal.gentoo.org
Address 5: 2a01:488:67:1000:b01c:3277:0:1 quetzal.gentoo.org
Address 6: 2a01:90:200:10::1a

EDIT: Actually, I was wrong, it is exactly the same as rsync.gentoo.org right now. I remember it used to be differently.

Nice! I've updated my make.conf and expect never to get stuck in the Dublin Tar Pit again :)

Interesting. Some DNS like rsync.se.gentoo.org resolve to the same hosts as rsync.gentoo.org. Others like rsync.no.gentoo.org are equal to rsync.europe.gentoo.org, and the likes of rsync.bg.gentoo.org equal to rsync.asia.gentoo.org.

rsync.{at,cz,de,fi,fr,gr,nl,pl,pt,uk}.gentoo.org and possibly others have a list of local rsync mirrors.

rsync.es.gentoo.org seems to show the french mirrors.
