PostPosted: Thu Mar 14, 2013 6:35 pm    Post subject: Resolved - Firefox window expands off screen Reply with quote

For a long time Firefox on my desktop has somehow grown to a size somewhat larger than the screen, cutting off the right side of the window. In the past I ignored it because it was only cutting a few pixels, but I've just come back to my desktop after a long vacation and the problem is much worse. It grows faster and it hasn't stopped yet, the window is now about 4000 pixels long. The window can be resized, but it starts growing again immediately. I have screenshots taking about 30 seconds apart to show what's happening. I have no idea what could cause this, but I can list what factors changed since the last time I used the computer and it became much worse. In that time I bought a second monitor, much bigger than my original. They are now both attached to the computer by DVI. I updated all the software on this box yesterday, which brought it from KDE 4.9 to 4.10 and firefox several versions up (didn't check exactly what it was running before). I've provided all the version information that comes to mind, but I don't really know what information is relevant here. The monitors are an HP 1740 (1280x1024) and an Asus VS247 (1920x1080).

Go to a Single Monitor setup, and see if the window grows past the boundary, then plug the new one in and unplug the old and see if that causes growth. If neither of them "grow," then there is a setup issue in KDE.

The problem existed before the new monitor. I tried it, it exists with either or both screens plugged in.

I just tried removing my .kde4 folder. Firefox shows the same behavior. It does not occur on a newly created test user.

firefox window seems to have 'stretched' width, cutting off sides of websites
Firefox window is too large or opens off screen

Thanks, managed to resolve this. I found the Findbar Tweak extension was causing this, somehow, but only when running KDE.
