Hi guys.
I have a server acting as a router/gateway. Can anyone recommend a (graphical) app to show what protocols are being sent/received and what %age of the bandwidth each one is taking?

Thanks!

Hi,

Some simple tools you can use are either iptraf-ng or iftop (You might have looked into those already; not really a graphical interface...)
Both give an idea about what traffic is send over what port ( also destination port). iptraf allows you to create logfiles, so you can analyse later. IPtraf also allows serviceresolution, so for example showing "ssh" if a package is ssh-traffic ( but I think it is just based on the port used, not on actual inspection of the package).

If you need more something that can also do"packet inspection" wireshark might be better ( but more complicated).

Alex.

Well I use Wireshark for other things, that's not really what I'm looking for here. If iftop is like a "top" of interfaces that might work, I need to look at it.

What I was thinking is just something like a bar chart, updted in real time, showing (for example) 55% http traffic, 10% ssh traffic, 30% on port 49150 and 5% of smtp traffic. The graph updates in realtime as network traffic changes.

An example of its output is here:

Best indeed is to try and see if it does what you need.

That is actually pretty much what I was looking for, was just thinking X based, but this will work in the meantime :-)

Thanks for the heads-up!
