I get lots of more than 6 konqueror windows if I try to use it.So I uninstalled it.I don't need it.I uninstalled it before cause of same windows-opening spree, eventually locking X up if I am not quick enuff to log in, from another box and killall konqueror repeatedly.
Must have been reinstalled at last update.

However I am trying to use Dropbox > Open Dropbox Folder.
It complains about not finding konqueror.
Similar problem with Transmission > Open Folder.

So my question is = is there any way to let these 2 programs point to some more sensible program/file manager than this windows-crazy-konqueror ?
I hope this is the last time I have to type konqueror. :D

System settings > default applications?

Well, then you need to figure out how to set the default applications by using xdg commands (don't ask me; I don't know - the man page or the command line utilities are not very friendly). Otherwise, try to manually set the default applications in ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.

This has something to do with .fluxbox/apps I presume .
Will try to figure it out when I have time to dig in to it.

I suppose you mean XDM not XDG.
In which case I have to admit I use GDM which I guess makes me a gnome user despite the -gnome flag.

And BTW is this normal behaviour on behalf of konqueror ?

No, I meant xdg. xdg-settings can help you fix some default openers. xdg-mime can help you set mimetypes. And there are a couple of other such utilities. The man page shows how to do this, but it is unclear what all properties it can set. For example
Code:
~» xdg-settings --list
Known properties:
default-url-scheme-handler    Default handler for URL scheme
  default-web-browser           Default web browser
xdg-settings shows just two types of defaults for handling URLs. What other types are present? I don't know, and the xdg manpage is not helpful either.
