A long time ago I had to use rtorrent, it was running as a daemon in screen and I was connecting via screen -R and sudo. But now that trick does not work.

Code:

$ sudo -u rtorrent -H /usr/bin/screen -R
Cannot open your terminal '/dev/pts/4' - please check.

TTY of the running screen is kinda undefined. But there are no other screen sesseions running, so -R should attach to the first available, but it doesn’t.

Code:

$ ps -u rtorrent
PID TTY TIME CMD
11427 ? 00:00:00 screen
…

P.S.: term — urxvt
