what to do with a 16GB SSD in a laptop?

Got one of those Thinkpads with a 16GB SSD in it. Now it is too small to put the OS on it otherwise it would be great. Just putting /boot on it seems silly. Only thing I can think of is some kind of backup of "important" files so that I always have at least 2 copies of them around. Or an svn depository. The best option would be some kind of hd cache. But it doesn't seem right to make it swap either.

Is there a way to make this a sort of general purpose (permanent between boots) cache? The only thing I found is flashcache but I'm not sure it is what I'm looking for.

id make it root and symlink rapidly moving packages over to rotating drives. my root is 20 g....

rootfs 1m blocks 20974 used 11762

make your static packages that dont change often move fast on the ssd and have a rotator for files that are edited / torented / written and read / thrasher drive.

ssd drives die quickly when used as thrasher drives or caches, it would make a GREAT /bin /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin
