|
|
Hi everyone!
I'm new to gentoo, but i wanted to try this out.
The installation went fine but when I had to install grub I run into some problems:
I configured the /boot/grub/grub.conf file as show in the guide but when I reboot the system nothing happens...
Maybe I made a mistake configuring the grub.conf, but i don't understand where.
Thx for the help |

UnclePecos,
Welcome to Gentoo.
Can you describe this 'nothing' which happens at boot in a bit more detail :)
Do you get a message like "No Operating System Found"
Nothing at all on the screen after the POST messages
No grub splash screen or menu ?
Does it go wrong after you select Gentoo from grub ?
Which version of grub do you have? _________________ Regards,

boot cd, mount gentoo partitions, enter the chroot, start grub Code: | cp -L /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/gentoo/boot
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
mount --rbind /sys /mnt/gentoo/sys
mount --rbind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
source /etc/profile
export PS1="(chroot) $PS1"
emerge grub
grub
find /boot/grub/stage1 | This will return an answer in the format (hdx,y) substitute the returned values for x and y below This will return the file system of the /boot partition.this will return sectors embedded and succeeded. Code: | exit
cd
umount -l /mnt/gentoo/dev{/shm,/pts,}
umount -l /mnt/gentoo{/boot,/proc,}
reboot | Assuming /boot/grub/grub.conf was edited correctly and kernel drivers exist for hard drives and file systems .... _________________ Defund the FCC. |
