Hello,

really, why? I can't imagine any scenario when publicly available build.log is a security threat. I'm really tired of changing permissions to this file each time I need to share it with someone, e.g. post a bugreport on bugzilla. (As a decent user I use root as little as I can and bugs are posted via a normal user.) Aside from bugreports I often need to grep that file to understand what is amiss and I always have to either change permissions or perform required action using root. Both solutions are annoying.

Can I at least tell portage to set 0644 on build.log?

My user is member of portage group. Can read logs no problem.

Hmm, that's too much. I don't want to allow an ordinary user (even if it is my own account) to allow modifications to the portage tree or distfiles.

Members of portage group cannot modify ebuilds nor emerge anything, they just can read.
