F4 not working anymore

Hi,

Today my F4 stopped working and I'm guessing it's a hardware failure but want to be sure. If I start xev and press F4 once, the following is printed:

If I press F4 multiple times, more 'p' letters are printed into the screen. But if I press F3, the following is printed:

Does anybody know what 'p' corresponds to when running xev ?

Can't answer your question, but you can always test your hardware by booting a known good Linux, like SystemRescueCd. Admittedly, Gentoo a toolset to build our own Linux and the result can be broken (for PEBKAC or other reasons) ...

If xev is only printing "p" than it receives the "p"-key from your keyboard. As mentioned, you should double check with another system but it seem likely your keyboard is broken.
