Some blogs are in a tizzy over this obviously unsanctioned variance from the talking points.

The NOAA are rightfully being cautious. Any one weather event, or even a whole year of freakish weather doesn't make a climate norm. That includes 1 particular temperature spike from 15 years ago that denialists like to harp on about incessantly as the 'end of warming' even after their error has been explained to them.

We're in the middle of an Ice Age, on the precipice of a glacial period. Anthropogenic global warming might just save us.

That doesn't mesh with what we've been hearing. I'm not saying NOAA is wrong, but the climate change scientists and groupies have been going on and on in typical sky-is-falling fashion about the now "normal" drought and high temperatures conditions we've been seeing.

The rising temperatures and ice loss have been ongoing for decades, that's enough data points to establish climate trends.

What I was trying to communicate is that every year we have higher temperatures and continuing drought, and the climate change crowd uses that as an example to support their POV. NOAA is contradicting that POV, at least for 2012.
