I have some strange sound problems after updating to the latest gentoo code:
I have now kde version 4.9.3. I'm using an old SB Live! 5.1 card on a board with a built in HDA Intel PCH device. So far I had no problems with the sound, but after the latest update, only the system sounds and amarok are working. With mplayer, xine, vlc etc I have no sound. Tried it with different users and different Phonon backends (GStreamer and vlc).
So far I couldn't find any hint in the net. I'm not sure what kind of log files could be useful to solve this problem. In mplayer debug mode I couldn't see any error messages.
I'm not using PulseAudio.
Any ideas? |

Hi,
did you try running alsamixer with choosing different sound card? Does mplayer work with other -ao than alsa? Perhaps openal? Post some more info. |

Hi, thanks for your answer
So far I found out it's related to the SB Live card. With the built in card I have no problems.
With alsamixer I tried to configure the SB Live card, but there is only one switch with an action to the sound, called SB Live. Action is mute or unmute.
Btw, I'm using the digital port of both sound cards.
With mplayer I tried -ao sdl, no sound. openal is not available on my system.
I can also play sound in amarok and a test sound at the same time, no problem. But all other audio player aren't working. Very strange!! |
