OK, this is a fresh install on a new system. It appears as though the build order is incorrect. It is looking for a file it cannot find.
Code:

exiv2.cpp:38:23: fatal error: exv_conf.h: No such file or directory
 # include "exv_conf.h"
                       ^
compilation terminated.
Makefile:192: recipe for target 'exiv2.o' failed
make[1]: *** [exiv2.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1/work/exiv2-0.24

 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=media-gfx/exiv2-0.24
-r1::gentoo'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-
r1::gentoo'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1/te
mp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-
r1/temp/environment'.
 * Working directory: '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1/work/exiv2-0.24-abi_x86_64.amd64'
 * S: '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1/work/exiv2-0.24'

>>> Failed to emerge media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1, Log file:

>>>  '/tmp/portage/media-gfx/exiv2-0.24-r1/temp/build.log'

Looks like a header is missing, but I have no idea as to why. Any work-arounds for this?

Alright, the whole story. I bought two IDENTICAL Dell Optiplex 780 systems. Each has a Core2Duo @ 3.00GHz, 8GB RAM, and 1TB SATA disk. Same monitors, keyboards, mice. One is affected by this bug, one is not. One is currently doing the last emerge before being ready to use, one is unable to build exiv2. Seems odd to me, but I will remember to build exiv2 with one job until this is fixed. For my systems, I intend to clone the working one to the bugged one and be done with it. I'll have to set a new hostname and network address, but the rest should be fine.

Thank you for the link and work-around.
