I'm trying to get my Lifeview FlyVideo '98 FM card working in Gentoo, and I'm almost there. I've compiled in V4L, bttv, i2c, i2c-bit banging, and bt848 audio dma as modules. If I type
Code:
modprobe bttv

dmesg reports this -
Code:
bttv0: detected: Flyvideo 98FM (LR50)/ Typhoon TView TV/FM Tuner [card=36], PCI subsystem ID is 1852:1852
bttv0: using: BT878(Flyvideo 98FM (LR50Q) /) [card=36,autodetected]

So bttv seems to detect my card correctly (it's named correctly) but it doesn't think I have a tuner. I know that my card has a Phillips NTSC tuner, so I tried
Code:
modprobe bttv tuner=2

then dmesg lists my tuner as Phillips NTSC, but I still can't get channels in xawtv. I set the options to NTSC, us-cable, mono.
Next, I tried compiling the Phillips SAB3036 tuner module in the kernel config, and I can modprobe it, but I don't know what to do after that, and it doesn't make any difference in xawtv anyway.

Anyone have any insights on this? What tuner number should I pass to bttv? Is it misdetecting my card?

James

Have you setup any channels for xawtv? When I first setup my tv card I had to add channels to ~/.xawtv:

Code:
scantv

should find TV channels.

Your post made me want to install my Flyvideo 98 - Compiled everything as needed (with the standard v4l and bttv mods), xawtv detects card fine and runs well....but alas the same problem?! I can't get any channels! Scantv picks up diddleysquat?!

So - In reply, you have probably compiled everything correctly, just not found the right settings for xawtv yet? or maybe bttv? I'm not sure - But I'm gonna keep playing around. If you find out what the prob is please post it :)

BTW - I noticed that your card is detecting as 36...if its a flyvideo 98 FM then it is actually card # 56?... maybe this is your problem...? BTTVs autodetect might be playing funny buggers with your card :)

Where does one find the list of supported cards and tuners and the numbers bttv assigns to them?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that the problem with my card will be that I don't know the tuner they put in the cards sold to Australia...If anyone else has their Flyvideo 98FM setup from Aust, please post your setup :)

BTW, if your interested on the top right hand side of your card there is a model number - and there is a web site that tells you all the switches to use with bttv for this card, I came across it a little while ago - but buggered if I can remember it off hand - If your interested I will have a scour through my history to find it....

I was confused earlier. When I ran scantv before and got
Code:
2    ( 55.25 MHz): ???
[unknown (2)]
channel = 2

I assumed that scantv was failing, when in fact, it was working. So yeah, all I have to do now is
Code:
modprobe bttv tuner=2

and I'm set.

Now to install mythTV. I've heard good things about it.

Thanks everyone!
James
