I don't think I'm quite getting how all of this is working.
First I emerged gnome 3, I like it, but then I discovered awesome window manager.
I can actually get stuff done now, and I like the idea. But I don't seems to be getting it:
As far as I understand:
awesome is just the window manager. it still needs a desktop environment so right now I suppose it's using gnome desktop environment.
But if I understand correctly, it's possible to use xfce instead of gnome?
Are there certain desktop environments better suited to work together with aweomse?
Also:
when is xinitrc run? as soon as you enter a graphical environment?
Does it matter if you enter i through gdm? or through startx? |

I don't believe awesome will play with desktop environment. Though I've never tried this. The idea of awesome is to get rid of all the stuff on the desktop and have windows fully utilize the space. So, it's kind of does not make sense to have both desktop environment and awesome. |
