Hello,
I'm struggling with my gentoo system here. I've made a fresh install, everything by the book. System is running perfectly. But, this KDE 4.11 do not work. I've tried a lot of different ways of making KDE works but didn't work. Here is the problem:
Quote: | klauncher kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
kdmgreet/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed: "Not connected to D-Bus server"
kdmgreet/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): No time zone information obtained from ktimezoned |
I saw this topic over here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7514644.html
I've follow through with the hints. Didn't work.
I'm since Friday(april/1 trying to solve this but I'm getting nowhere.
Does anyone solve this problem?
Obs: I've made 3 fresh install since friday, using the unstable (~amd64) and the stable(amd64) version of Gentoo.
At this moment I'm with the STABLE VERSION. _________________ Hack the world. Save the planet. |

Well, just as a suggestion, since you're getting the message Code: | klauncher kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server. | have you checked to see if you've started the DBUS server?
Also would be interesting to know if you've followed the Gentoo KDE Guide on the Gentoo Wiki.

Hehehehe... Do you really think I would be batteling with Gentoo since Friday if was something so simple?
Anyway I've made:
Code: | # rc-update add dbus default
# rc-update add consolekit default |
So, Yes, my d-bus is started. =D _________________ Hack the world. Save the planet. |

Okay, okay: just checking.
What does: Code: | /etc/init.d/dbus status | report?
And the question about the KDE Guide?

OK, you've started the system DBus daemon. Is there a session DBus daemon (the one under your UID) running? |

Here:
Quote: | # /etc/init.d/dbus status
* status: started |
No question about the guide. I've been using gentoo for over 2 years, I already read that guide a dozen times. =D
Here is a little bit more information:

You guys need more information?
I'm still with this problem without getting anywhere...
One thing I haven't make any mention but I'm using a NVidia graphical card and I'm using the nvidia driver. Not the nouveau. _________________ Hack the world. Save the planet. |

See the last answer of the topic that you linked to; it seems that this is a NVIDIA drivers specific bug, killing some process appears to fix that up. You might want to file this bug at Gentoo Bugzilla and mention that this has to do with NVIDIA (perhaps quoting from the otherthread). Read here how to write a bug report, for more in-depth details and troubleshooting steps you can read our Bugzilla HOWTO. |
