I've been trying to install Gentoo, and i got the latest .iso files (GRP, pentium 3), but when i put the CD i burnt it on (yes, the one with the cd1 iso), it says:
Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: Failure...
I don't see why it won't boot. Any help? |

If you look at the contents of the CD that you just burned, you should see a bunch of directories and files. If you just see a single .iso file, you did not burn it correctly.
In your CD burning software, choose the "burn from image" option and use the .iso as the image file. |

yeah, that worked.... but now i have a different problem. (geez, I'm so needy, huh?)
Anyway,
The Gentoo Instruction Manual wrote: |
Once you hit Enter, you will be greeted with an even fancier boot screen and progress bar. |
That happens, but the progress bar doesn't seem to be making any... progress. It just sits there and does nothing.
When will the problems end? |

I think you can hit F2 or something and it whisks you on to the more informative boot screen, where you can see various services start up. Check the help that can be displayed when the CDROM begins the boot process. |

hda: host protected area => 1
i have no idea what this means. |

Have you had a search through the gentoo forums and/or Google for this error? |

I can't find anything useful.
The thing is, the Slackware installation works fine on the same computer. |
