Simple traffic shaping command needed

I've got a wireless access point running gentoo, connected to the rest of my network. I want to apply traffic shaping so wireless users have a capped upload rate in kbps to the rest of the network, nothing else. Every howto or guide for traffic shaping out there seems to assume I have a dozen network cards and want a hundred different classifiers. Can someone explain it in plain english?
