Hi everyone,

I have some problems with my Thinkpad X230. Everything works nice, great laptop, but I cannot make the microphone work. It appears in alsamixer, it records, I even hear my voice, but really distorted and loud white noise in the back. I searched a lot, found people had the same problem (in other distros), but noone had a solution (e.g. the guys at Mint http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=113255). Playback works perfectly fine.

I installed alsa and activated hopefully the right kernel modules, that was enough to satisfy alsa on all other gentoo installations. Anything else I miss?

lspci -nn | grep Audio:

Code:

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04)

alsa-info output is uploaded:

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=3beff8cc4b8bda1d5c29509b041426eaba32e012

In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf, I tried

Code:

options snd-hda-intel model=alc269-dmic

and

Code:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

and no entry for snd-hda-intel, all the same results, beautiful white noise...

My kernel config for SND:

grep SND /usr/src/linux/.config | grep -e [my]
Code:

CONFIG_SND=m
CONFIG_SND_TIMER=m
CONFIG_SND_PCM=m
CONFIG_SND_HWDEP=m

I tried also several kernel versions (gentoo-sources 3.5.7, 3.6.6 and 3.6.8 ), all the same results.

Anyone any idea?

Thanks,

Jorro

jorro,

In alsamixer, there is a switch called Mic Boost, which applies 20db of amplification to the mic input.
Try it both on and off. you will have to change the recording level betweenthe two settings.

Hmm. On my system, its become a slider called Mic Boost.

That was the problem. Thanks. I thought I tried that out. Anyway, it's a slider here too :).

Thanks again,

Jorro
