Hey guys,
on my notebook I've noticed a reeaaally strange problem today! Everytime I try to emerge chromium, the laptop at some point powers off. Bang, black screen, enough battery and it even happens with plugged ac and a full battery. It's so mysterious...
Any ideas?
Best regards,

Could it be over heating and shutting down? How about when you emerge other large packages, for example libreoffice? Can you watch the temperatures while it is running and compiling? Is the laptop sat on a table with clear airflow beneath it (on my laptop the fan infeed is underneath).
Lots of questions, but hopefully useful! |

I dont't think it is overheating because the laptop wasn't abnormally hot and I emerged other packages that took even more time. |

Overheating, for one, is not that much a function of a total use time. It more depends on whether CPU is loaded continously - and if cooling is insufficient, loaded CPU temperature will rise pretty fast. |

There might be another cause: Lack of memory. emerging chromium with a high value for -j in MAKEOPTS can fill the whole of 4GiB RAM and 8GiB swap on my laptop. If swap is full, the kernel starts shooting down processes. Yes, I doubt, too, that the kernel will kill init, but it might be related. _________________ Important German:- "Aha" - German reaction to pretend that you are really interested while giving no f*ck.
