I have an HP Elitebook 2530p laptop that is running Gentoo with xfce4.

The battery management panel plugin behaves oddly. When the battery is removed, it shows a battery with an empty charge bar, and the text "50%%". Turning off "show percentage" in the settings does not affect this at all.

The power manager, by comparison, shows "AC connected" (or something -- I have German localization) when the battery is removed. When the battery is installed, it shows the percentage and indicates that the battery is being charged, along with an estimate of the remaining charge time.

So -- one works, and one doesn't. Why?
