Weird.

I rebooted my machine - first time in 4 months.

On the virtual console, I can log in fine.

On X, I can log in fine. But when I launch a terminal emulator, it doesn't work. Konsole loads but no prompt appears. xterm just won't load. Within emacs, M-x shell works, but not M-x term.

Tried different window managers. Same behavior.

Help me figure this out!

hmm, are udev and udev-mount both in the sysinit runlevel?

Solved - apparently I needed to upgrade udev after I had upgraded openrc - not sure why they didn't make it a dependency in the ebuild...
