I just discovered from experimentation that the fully-preemptible model in rt-sources actually prevents nvidia-drivers from accessing VBIOS. Only the fully-preemptible model does this. The normal rt model and lower does not interfere with nvidia-drivers accessing VBIOS.

Can anyone elaborate on why, and what might be done to get around this?

EDIT:

I suspect this might affect Optimus laptops, because the nvidia-drivers/rt-sources version combo I know works with PREEMPT_FULL does not work on my Optimus laptop. I will have to verify this when I'm able to access my desktop Nvidia setup. If this is so, then the question becomes: What is it about PREEMPT_FULL that prevents Optimus from accessing VBIOS?
