I've been trying to get VLC to use skins. Whether I put the skin file in ~/.local/share/vlc/skins2 or /usr/share/vlc/skins2, I get:

I'm at a loss, and it seems like #videolan on Freenode doesn't know, either. Anyone know how to make this work?

I have the same problem.
I want to use a skin so I can have the duality of managing the controller in my laptop's default display while the video is displayed in full screen on an attached projector. It seems the only way to accomplish this duality of displays is through the use of skins. The other methods simply are not working for me.
I duly followed the instructions and downloaded two sample skins https://wiki.videolan.org/Skins/

Note: when clicking the VLC icon from within Gnome, nothing displays. I have go to a console and launch:
to get vlc to work again.
(Today is not a happy day... I have a presentation in three days and I had assumed LibreOffice's feature of incorporating videos and then running the presentation so the full display occurs on the project would work. And add to that the "remote impress" where you can use your Android device to tie in with Bluetooth and manage the slideshow. Bluetooth for remote impress is broken and has been for some time. I tried and successfully connected using the wifi, but then the session hung. So scratch out using LibreOffice for a live presentation with video. Backup plan: use Vlc and manually launch videos when needed... but, no, VLC's feature to launch a full screen presentation in a separate display is fraught with complexity and broken elements. So tempting to run Windows and use PowerPoint, but I hate to pay $$ for closed source software that probably will have hidden limitations, too.. It is very frustrating to have products installed that arguably can do wonderful things and then the gotchas creep in. I would try to fix some of these things, but I simply do not have the time within my deadline and I have to cut my losses.) |
