Hi
I have got a problem with my gentoo (2002) system. During startup procedure information is displayed on the screen:
Populating /dev with device nodes.... [oops]
The "tar" command failed with error:
Data integrity error when decompressing.
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)
It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.
You can use the "bzip2recover" program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged section of corrupted files.
tar: Child return ststus 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Since this is a critical task, startup cannot continue.
I have checked hard drive by seeking bad or relocated sectors using SeaTools (Seagate). Nothing was found, no errors or bad sectors. So the hard drive works well.
What could be the problem? What files have become corrupted? Haw can I fix the problem? |

Are you using devfs or a manually maintained /dev/? Kernel 2.4 or 2.6? |
