Hi,

My system is Gentoo x64, updated. I have Gnome 3 and lightdm emerged. My DE works fine after I logged in. But if I lock the screen, not log out, I will not be able to unlock the screen. I assume the unlock password is same as my log in password, but it did not work.

I think there's something wrong with the permission/authentication module, but I do not know how to fix it. Please help!

Thank you,
David

Have you checked logs for any clues as to what is causing the problem?

Next time it happens, hit "Ctrl+F12" and look at the output of dmesg to see if you get any clues.

Hi, sorry for the delay!

I checked the log, and I think the relevant messages are:

unix_chkpwd: check pass; user unknown
unix_chkpwd: password check failed for user (user)
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): authentication failure;...

haha, i found the solution.

chmod +s /sbin/unix_chkpwd

the "unix_chkpwd" command miss the "s" bit. i think something went wrong when i install my system, or there's a bug :(
