Welcome to the new Gentoo 12.1 release.

It's a updated spin of the previous 12.0 release.

Packages included in this release: Linux Kernel 3.3.0, Xorg 1.12.0, KDE 4.8.1, Gnome 3.2.1, XFCE 4.8, Fluxbox 1.3.2, Firefox 11.0, LibreOffice 3.5.1.2, Gimp 2.6.12, Blender 2.60, Amarok 2.5 , VLC 2.0.1 and much more ...

Enjoy it and report any issues at the Gentoo Bugzilla while adding your report as a blocker of bug #378027 which is the tracker for this release. Please DO NOT post comments at bug 378027.

Be sure to try the new Gentoo Install Wizard.

Many thanks to likewhoa & others for all the work put into the release.

+1, though the digest files on the server show indeed different values for 12.0 and 12.1.

That's just the version of baselayout (which is also in /etc/gentoo-release)

Code:
$ emerge -qp baselayout
[ebuild   R   ] sys-apps/baselayout-2.1

Right, it's in /etc/gentoo-release. That's the file Linux distros keep the release information, /etc/*-release. However, the subject of this thread claims there is Gentoo 12.1 release now.

Be sure to have a certain piece of hardware plus it's supported by the kernel... would be more fun, if some live effects were added to the picture.

Hello and welcome, the only way to install Gentoo is by the handbook:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
or
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/es/handbook/index.xml

Follow the handbook.

You can't upgrade from a 32bit environment, you will have to start from scratch. Again follow the handbook to accomplish this.

I think you are asking for crossdev?
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/embedded/cross-development.xml
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Crossdev

But if this is just about libs to run 32bit apps on 64bit. Then set the USE-Flag multilib [and|or] use the proper profile.

Hi,

Do you known if (and where) catalyst livecd-stage[1..2]_template.spec files are available for 12.1 liveDVD?
I'm unable to find them on gentoo.sources.org

Regards.

No, there is no docache, but you can increase the amount of memory in use by parsing aufs_mem=8g (this option is listed in livedvd's boot options)
