I'm familiar with the Gentoo install, but I have a question before I try it on my Macbook. I have a 5th Gen Macbook so, I was going to follow the following instructions
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?part=1
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Apple_Macbook
Looking at the instructions specifically for my Macbook the only options for the install use Bootcamp or rEFIt for a bootloader. Ideally, I would like to get rid of the OSX partition and only be booting Gentoo from grub. So, I was wondering whenever it comes time to install the boatloader; if i could jump over here http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Apple_Macbook_Pro#GRUB_2 and follow these instructions for installing grub2 on a Macbook pro?

Ok so I got gentoo installed on my macbook. just to clarify this was a 5th gen macbook, with the all white plastic, that I bought back in the summer of 2008. Since none of those instructions helped me, I'll post the details without being to verbose.

Follow this handbook.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1

when i got to the partition scheme i did
2mb bios_grub (this is partition without a filesystem. in parted run; set partition# bios_grub on)
32mb /boot
512mb swap
rest /

what i did for grub
echo "sys-boot/grub:2 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords/sys-boot
emerge sys-boot/grub:2
grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck --debug /dev/sda
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

thats it

I had trouble with the broadcom-sta driver, i had to blacklist ssb and b43
and im not sure yet if i have got 2 finger scrolling working with mtrack
