I'm using Gentoo for Web- and MySQL Servers at work and announced it as our new default - distro a few months ago. Previously, we were on Ubuntu. We are implementing Puppet to our Gentoo servers currently. It is in use on the Ubuntu nodes for quite a few months now.
After we have changed the system's specifics like paths, syntaxes for Packages, etc. in the manifests, everything works well, but each Puppet run takes about 7 to 10 times longer on the Gentoo systems than it takes on the Ubuntu ones. And I do not think that this is explainable with bare specific operations for packages or such where portage might take longer than apt . When you watch the debug-output, even the eaqual tasks, like enforcing permissions on a file or to create a symlink, etc. do take that longer.
Has anybody seen this too or has a suggestion of what this could be?
