I have a requirement that should a certain file be created on my samba share, I would like a program or script to be executed.

I could have a program monitor the audit log, but I am wondering if samba has any 'plugin' capability where I can be notified when an event happens and maybe perform some task when that event occurs.

I don't expect this to be some sort of 'filter', I just want to know if something has happened and it would be nice if it was real time.

Maybe something with dbus?

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Solved:

samba is using syslog to record the audit log.
syslog-ng (what I use) allows for 'programs' to receive all log input
I can simply make a program which checks for required events from stdin and action as necessary.
