Well... formally speaking... uname -r prints the kernel release.
As Monte5 asked for the kernel name then uname -s is the correct answer even if... the information produced is so... trivial that I doubt Monte5 actually wanted the kernel name... 
So... Go for uname -a and... just pick up the information you wanted...

Monte5,
gives you information about the runnig kernel from data embedded in the binary when it was compiled. Unless youer own kernel is running its no help to you
This is not what you need to know when you are setting up grub.conf. Then you need the kernel file name. The file name is arbitary. You can call your kernel Monte5 if you want as long as thats what you put in grub.conf.
Its a really good idea to name your kernel files after the kernel version inside.
