Hello all,
I recently ditched XFCE for an Openbox-only window manager, and with it I decided to get rid of NetworkManager in favor of wicd.
It seems to work just fine, except after a period of inactivity, the WiFi connection is dropped.
I have tried multiple networks, and the behavior is the same across the board, although all are using WPA2 (I cannot access networks that use other/no encryptions).
I have found that if I ping google (or some other server, the connection seems to be much more stable, and will stay up (so far it's been up for a half hour which is significantly longer than average before).
I have enabled auto-reconnect, however it doesn't seem to work very well.
Since I don't know too much about wicd, I'm not sure what exactly to post about it other than the symptoms, but hopefully someone else has run across this and has some tips. I am using the GTK interface of it. If this doesn't work, I may just jump to something else. Thanks! _________________ Thinkpad X220 |

Advanced
- WPA Supplicant Driver - wext
- Backend - ioctl
- Debugging - unchecked
- Wireless Interface - dBm - checked
- Ping static gateways after connceting to verify association
External
- DHCP - dhcpcd
- The rest are all automatic
Thanks so much for the help! _________________ Thinkpad X220 |

I switched from ioctl to external just now, and it seems to be performing well so far. Thanks for the tip! It would have probably disconnected by now. _________________ Thinkpad X220 |
