im running gentoo on an old p200 32mb toshiba laptop. just compiled xfree 4.3 (took a day) and have fluxbox.

the fonts are super blocky. but i dont think it's isolated to the fonts. the mose cursor looks kinda blocky too. looks like someone snipped off the edges here and there.

i used the -configure option to let X generate my config for me. i have the res set to 640 because if i set it to 800, X errors out and says that the virtual something or other is set too high. if i leave no res specified, i get a res at 640 with a virtual dekstop space of 800 (seemingly).

does anyone know what's going on?

turns out it was the video driver. the default driver was "chips". changed it to vesa and all was well.

thanks,

ryan
