|
|
Hello, I've been trying to get shift insert to work in Firefox, to my knowledge this is not possible from within firefox. Is this is indeed true? Does anyone know some sort of workaround for this problem? Like binding shift insert to a middle mouse click (okey that sounds a little silly)? |

You can actually paste within firefox with shift+insert, however it pastes from the gtk+ clipboard rather than X11's.
I'd imagibe there's some way to work around it, but I have no idea how, and it may be a gtk+ thing rather than a firefox one... _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

All GNOME/GTK apps paste from GTK clipboard on shift+insert, with the exception of the terminal. |

Yes, but as I use my keyboard most of the time I would have to reach out to my mouse in order to paste, which is rather annoying.

I'll google some to see if I can bind the gtk+ clipboard to the X11 one somehow. |

Parcellite (which is in portage) does half the job. You can select a bit of text and it will save it to the clipboard's history, but you first have to select what you want to paste before you can actually paste it with shift insert. So if it would automatically have you paste the last bit of text you selected it would work like I want it to.
The only other packages that seem to have the same functionality are klipper and glipper, but they depend on kde and gnome respectively. |

I know this is a old post, but for googlers(me), parcellite is awesome for synchronizing clipboards if you select some options.
First, you may need trayer to access parcellite because a lot of tiling WMs don't have a desktop 'tray' by default.
Code: | emerge parcellite trayer |
Start trayer and parcellite by typing their respective names
Code: | trayer &; parcellite & |
Right click The clipboard icon it creates, and check (1)Use Primary (selection)
and (2) syncronize clipboards.
Then
You don't need trayer anymore.
To make parcellite start when you start X, add it to your ~/.xinitrc as
and fork that bad boy to the background, and forget about him. Remember to add the line before you start your WM/DE, or it won't be run. |

Not any more you can't , someone has screwed X11 cut and paste in GTK+
GTK+ becomes GTK- and anything based on it gets worse and worse.
Between those trying to make linux like windoze and those trying to make it into a Mac clone, we are loosing all that was good and special in Linux.

I had this problem when I had compiled firefox with graphite. Without graphite it worked. However, I do not have installed gtk+:3. |

I have Firefox-14 currently and the middle button works. Copying from Firefox and pasting to Firefox. Considering your other threads there is something seriously wrong with your box, Firefox is fine. |
I'd agree there are several things wrong with this installation, that is why I am trying to fix it, so far without much concrete advice here.
@mv
thanks, I'll look into that. I was running firefux 3.6 from before when they added a couple of digits to their release numbers. I think this comes from that update.
What does graphite refer to , I don't see it:
[ebuild U ] www-client/firefox-14.0.1 [13.0] USE="alsa bindist dbus ipc jit libnotify minimal startup-notification webm -custom-cflags -custom-optimization -debug -gstreamer% -pgo (-selinux) -system-sqlite -wifi (-crashreporter%)" LINGUAS="en_GB fr -af -ak -ar -as -ast -be -bg -bn_BD -bn_IN -br -bs -ca -cs -csb -cy -da -de -el -en_ZA -eo -es_AR -es_CL -es_ES -es_MX -et -eu -fa -fi -fy_NL -ga_IE -gd -gl -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -hy_AM -id -is -it -ja -kk -km% -kn -ko -ku -lg -lt -lv -mai -mk -ml -mr -nb_NO -nl -nn_NO -nso -or -pa_IN -pl -pt_BR -pt_PT -rm -ro -ru -si -sk -sl -son -sq -sr -sv_SE -ta -ta_LK -te -th -tr -uk -vi -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 0 kB
thanks for the tip. _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.
