Hi,

I got X running with twm. After that i tried to get gnome running but i couldn't. If i type in emerge gnome i keep getting this error:

!!! Error the ebuild did not complete succesfully.
!!! Function gnome2_src_configure, Line -5084, Exitcode 1
!!! ./configure failure

!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome-session/gnome-session-2.0.2-r1.ebuild

Is there somewhere a tutorial on the net, where one could read how to install gnome on gentoo?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I dont know about any tutorial for installing gnome2, however, I can tell you how I did it.

First I emerge xfree and then I emerge gnome. For some reason I had this crazy error the other day wich made me have to emerge /usr/portage/pathto_gtk+_version.ebuild before gnome.

You might wanna try this:

1) emerge --clean
2) emerge rsync
3) emerge xfree
4) emerge gtk+
5) emerge gnome
6) emerge sawfish or your favorite wm

If that doesnt work try to emerge the path to your file ex. emerge /usr/portage/pathtoyourfile.ebuild

Hope this helps you.

I got the same error when I tried to build gnome2. I think for some reason gconf wouldn't build on my system. I'm building that first manually and i'll post if that fixes it later.
